Juda Ka Talab

“Continuing from where we left off in the previous blog, you already know how we reached Sankri village and embarked on our journey. If you’re not familiar with our earlier adventure, I recommend checking out our previous blog.

After an exhausting 10-hour trek, we finally reached Juda ka Talab, and at that moment, I had no energy left for anything, literally anything. As soon as we arrived at our campsite, I tossed my travel bag into my tent and made a beeline for the cooking area in desperate need of sustenance. Unfortunately, we had arrived quite late, and there was nothing to eat right away. We consulted with our guide, who assured us that we’d get some soup in about an hour to replenish our energy. With no other options, we decided to wait.

Luckily, my friends and I had some snacks and cold drinks stashed away. So, we gathered around our tents, opened our bags, and started munching. After a small impromptu snack party, we decided to explore the area. In the video above, you’re seeing Juda ka Talab in the morning, but in the evening, it transforms into a muddy lake. Yes, you heard that right! By evening, all the snow had melted, leaving behind a murky pool of water. Instead of taking pictures of the muddy water, I decided to capture it in a video.” (Next paragraph is in Hindi)

What to do at Juda ka Talab?

“Now that you’ve seen what Juda ka Talab looks like in the morning and evening, let’s continue with our journey. After exploring this beautiful place, we returned to our campsite, recharging our energy for the next destination: Kedarkantha Base Camp. The real challenge lay ahead, which I’ll explain in a later section, so stay tuned! 😊

Once we reached our camp and settled into our tents, we were welcomed by a hot and tasty tomato soup. We found a large rock at a good vantage point and sat down to savor our soup while soaking in the breathtaking view. Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture of that moment. As you may know, at high altitudes, a phone’s battery drains rapidly, and we couldn’t afford that on our trip since we didn’t have a power bank, and there was no electricity on this trek. Preserving my phone’s battery was essential for capturing amazing photos and videos. But let’s put that aside and focus on our journey.

While enjoying our soup, we had the opportunity to meet many other groups and make new friends. Once we finished our soup, our guide assigned us the task of gathering wood for a campfire. So, we ventured a bit into the forest and collected some wood to keep us warm. Upon returning to our campsite, we enjoyed a cozy campfire with our fellow team members. Afterward, we had our dinner, and our guide advised us to get a good night’s rest because the next morning, we were heading to our next stop, Kedarkantha Base Camp. It wasn’t very far from our current campsite, but the route was challenging due to the snow.” (Next paragraph is in Hindi)

It’s fascinating to hear the different stories and explanations behind the name “Juda ka Talab.” It’s not uncommon for places to have multiple legends and folklore associated with their names. Both of the explanations you mentioned could hold some validity, and it’s possible that the name has evolved over time, incorporating elements from various local beliefs and traditions.

1. Lord Shiva’s Hair: The story of Lord Shiva throwing a part of his hair on the ground leading to the formation of the pond could be a symbolic or mythological explanation for the name. In Hindu mythology, such events are often used to explain the origins of natural features.
